Your voice, Your POWER.

Hello, beautiful people of the DOM ! I hope you've been having a jolly time .

The last time you were here , I encouraged you to take a break and I hope you did because this time I'm asking you to step back in to the ring because it's show time !

It's 2020 and so many things have changed.  A lot of sensitive topics are being discussed everyday yet there is still a lot of silence.
Social media is not just 'talking' anymore, it is getting work done . Believe me or not, you know it's true that a lot of conversations have started from these platforms , getting more people involved  and definitely getting more work done .

So darling, What exactly are you doing with your voice?

Your voice is peculiar, it's your identity, it's your power and there's so much more you can be doing rather than staying mute. Don't let anyone tell you that your voice doesn't matter because it does.

Staying silent or sitting on the fence when issues of importance like sexual assault, racism are raised is acknowledging that you have a voice and you're refusing to use it . Thereby, picking the side of the perpetrators.

I've not always been loud and opinionated. I used to struggle with my own voice . The voice that was non- existent at a time but currently won't shut up . LOL. Then  I found my voice, I worried about it getting lost in the rumble , who would listen and what they'll think yada yada yada.

I've come to learn that when you're not the loudest in the room ,you scream and shout until you are . Silence is never an option .  So I'm currently on a path to using my voice everywhere and anywhere . I don't care if the conversation isn't my business , I will speak whenever, however and wherever I want to and you should too.

Dear Reader, As much as it is important to use your voice, it is much more important to use it wisely. Educate yourself, Learn, Unlearn and Relearn .
I hope you have a good time finding your voice and if you have , I hope you have a better time using it .

See ya,
Chief.

Call me Chief.

"Enjoy your life, make sure say you dey always chop life "- Anon. Hello, it's so good to meet you. I'm super excited to finally start this blog after years of procrastinating.   We're meeting for the first time so let me tell you a bit about myself. Contrary to what the title says, my first name is Esther. Other people call me Jacqueline but in this space I'll prefer Chief so please, indulge me.  I think I'm quite opinionated, vocal and maybe interesting . I make jokes and some of them fly, others don't but some people will swear my humour is my best feature. I've lived in Lagos, Nigeria all my  life . I like to consider myself a proper, streetwise Eko girl but I guess the jury is still out on that one.  I'm passionate about women's rights and equality. It's something I'll never ever compromise.  Before the world came to a stop, I was a university student , in her second year studying Accounting.   Sometimes I'm an entrepreneur,...

Half time !

Hello YOU! Welcome back to the dom. I'm excited to have you back in our space . Did you bring a friend? I really hope you did. If you didn't, just know I'm judging you right now. 2020 has been such an interesting year. By interesting I mean pretty dramatic and we're just halfway into the year. This year came with a lot of baggage, I think we can all affirm that . We've been through a whole lot collectively. Some of us have fought mental and emotional battles, maybe we won , maybe we didn't , but hey ! We fought . And every other day, we still stay fighting.  When you fight everyday, some days you don't feel up for the battle . For me that day is today . I've lost so much time this year, so much money too. I've had a lot of rejection emails in my inbox , a lot of opportunities I missed and a lot of emotional energy I've lost.  I almost feel like I'm maxed out.  But I've come to realize that sometimes, all you need is a break. It might not ...

The "thing" that kills.

Those who know death know it doesn't kill. The thing that kills is greater than us all, This thing's power flows from  within our minds, Just like bile and spreads until it envelopes us, It's essence is to somehow find its way into our existence.  Nobody speaks of how it kills, Or how destructive it is because we are always blindsided by it's beauty, As though beauty ever overshadows  darkness. The thing that kills is in you, In us all, And we live everyday,  Fighting to kill it first. I'm trying my hands on short poetry 🙈. I have decided to take risks here.  Till next time, Your Chief.
